The Holiday Blizzard of December, 2006 : Round 2!

8 days after we had the holiday blizzard, we had another storm visit us and drop a bunch of snow. This one had more moisture which allowed it to pile up on the branches of the lighted trees in our front yard. The glow in the snow is from the lights on the trees that were covered up by the blizzard from last week. When I shoveled Friday morning, there were about 8 to 10 inches on the ground and it was still snowing. It looks like during the day only another inch or two fell. Some of the forecasts say the storm will be gone by Sunday and may leave another 8 inches or so by Saturday morning.
Ellen and I went looking for a snow blower on Thursday, but there were none to be found. The best I could do was a manual snow thrower; a snow shovel! Good thing I was at least able to buy another snow shovel.  Those were selling out very quickly as well.  Some of the photographs are on the web page or the slideshow (2006-denverblizzard_round2.pdf).

Denver Zoo – Wildlights

Ellen and I managed to get out to see the Wildlights exhibit at the Denver Zoo. It has been a few years since we last saw Wildlights. This was about the last chance we had to see it since a new storm was due to arrive the following day and I had to return to work on Friday. Wildlights is only open until December 31, 2006. It was a good thing we went Wednesday since they closed the exhibit on Thursday and Friday due to the storm. The web page and slideshow (2006-denverzoo_wildlights.pdf) contain the same photographs.

Courtney’s graduation from CSU

Let them eat cake!

This may be a little late, but only slightly. On December 15, 2006, Courtney graduated from Colorado State University. We went up to Fort Collins to have dinner before the graduation ceremony. On Saturday, we had a party at the house where about 40 people or so showed up. You may view some of the photographs here. You may also download and view a slideshow here: 2006-csu_graduation_and_party.pdf.

The Holiday Blizzard of December, 2006

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

It started snowing around 4 AM or so on Wednesday. As of noon of Thursday, it is still snowing. Although it was probably snowing non-stop (no, I didn’t stay up to check), most of the snow fell yesterday. Between midnight and now, not too much more snow fell; only a couple of more inches. Around our house, it looks like the blizzard dropped around 28 to 30 inches.  Woohoo!  Shoveling fun!!  I have some photographs in a PDF file (2006-december_blizzard.pdf) as well as a web page so you can see the view from our house.

Oh, and as with the other PDF slideshows, you probably want to download it and double-click on it after the download completes.  The slideshow doesn’t seem to work in the browser window.
