Hapeville, Georgia

Hapeville, GA

This is the front of the house in Hapeville GA.  Click here to see a web page with more photos.  I’ll get back here to update this page.  For now, I just wanted to make some photos of the place available on the web.

My photographic assistants

Daisy and Mocha

Of course I cannot go out to the backyard without some accompaniment.  As you can see, I even managed to get a pretty decent photo of the camera-shy Chloe!  It almost looks like she was posing for me!  Click on either photograph for the full size version.

Mocha!

We have a new addition to our pack: Mocha.  She is Mastiff and Australian Cattle dog.  When I saw her at the DDFL, I thought she may have had Pit Bull in her.  Our vet thought she has some Boxer in her.  She was born in mid-October at the Denver Dumb Friends League.  She came home with us on the 17th of December, weighing 13 pounds.  Daisy promptly established her alpha position with Mocha.  Chloe didn’t quite know what to make of her, but is slowly coming around and is starting to play with her.  Chloe’s version of playing is getting right in Mocha’s face and barking in her ear.  Sounds like fun, doesn’t it!  Let’s play!!

Phrosty Photographs

Recently we had a cold blast blow through. There must have been some humidity with that front as well since it left frost on just about everything. I managed to capture some photographs which you may view here.

Marie’s Crystal Delights

Marie's Crystal Delights

After Marie found my web site and emailed me, we started discussing web sites.  Turns out she had one but was looking for a better solution, so I created one for her.  She makes her own jewelry which she sell locally and through the web.  Courtney picked up one of Marie’s lanyard when we visited them in Virginia.  The site is just about done so have a look and let me know if you have any problems with it.  You can also let Marie know if you see anything you like!  Tell her Brian sent you.  ;-)  You will find her site here.

VDOT Closing Bridge in Prince William County

Norfolk Southerb Bridge on Aden Road

During our visit to Virginia, I was told about an old railroad bridge. We managed to get over there to capture some photographs before heading over for the crab feast. Jennifer sent me an article about the bridge being closed. Good thing we were able to get there before they closed it! Here are my photographs.

Up Close

Macro Photography

Here are some macro photographs of flowers in our front yard. Not all of them came out well. Here are some of the more interesting ones. To download the slide show to your PC, right-click here and select Save As.

“Lake Morningside” and the ice and ruts in our development

_dsc0123.jpg

This is a photograph of a rather large ‘car catcher’ just at the south entrance into Morningside captured on Tuesday 30 January, 2007. It is roughly 2 - 3 feet wide and 6 - 8 feet across and probably 6 inches deep. You may view more photographs by downloading the slide show or viewing the web pages. To view the slide show, download it first and then open it from your PC. Yesterday, we had to help one of our neighbors who got stuck in the hole.

Most people drive around it instead of trying to through it. It’s easy to forget about driving around it when we get a new coating of snow. We’ve been getting a storm a week for the last 7 weeks starting with the blizzard. Driving around this hole means you have to get close the street sign as you can see in one of the photographs.

The overnight low for tonight is -7 and the high for tomorrow is +7. We won’t soon be seeing this ice melting.

The Holiday Blizzard of December, 2006 : Round 2!

_dsc0060.jpg
8 days after we had the holiday blizzard, we had another storm visit us and drop a bunch of snow. This one had more moisture which allowed it to pile up on the branches of the lighted trees in our front yard. The glow in the snow is from the lights on the trees that were covered up by the blizzard from last week. When I shoveled Friday morning, there were about 8 to 10 inches on the ground and it was still snowing. It looks like during the day only another inch or two fell. Some of the forecasts say the storm will be gone by Sunday and may leave another 8 inches or so by Saturday morning.
Ellen and I went looking for a snow blower on Thursday, but there were none to be found. The best I could do was a manual snow thrower; a snow shovel! Good thing I was at least able to buy another snow shovel.  Those were selling out very quickly as well.  Some of the photographs are on the web page or the slideshow (2006-denverblizzard_round2.pdf).

Denver Zoo - Wildlights

_dsc0032.jpg
Ellen and I managed to get out to see the Wildlights exhibit at the Denver Zoo. It has been a few years since we last saw Wildlights. This was about the last chance we had to see it since a new storm was due to arrive the following day and I had to return to work on Friday. Wildlights is only open until December 31, 2006. It was a good thing we went Wednesday since they closed the exhibit on Thursday and Friday due to the storm. The web page and slideshow (2006-denverzoo_wildlights.pdf) contain the same photographs.
