Hall House Fine Art Gallery

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017

My photography has been on display in the Hall House Fine Art Gallery in Dahlonega, GA since mid-March.  The gallery is about 20 miles / 30 minutes from my house in Cleveland.  I started out with 6′ of a wall on which I hung some canvas.  My matted prints were in browse boxes that sat on a table.  Recently I noticed they added me to their Facebook page.  Have a look and when you do, like the page too.
I mainly have canvas, matted prints, and note cards on display.  There are a couple of prints on aluminum as well as 2 triptychs.

There are 16 artists in the gallery.  I’ve met some.  Their work is wonderful as are the artists.  There are a few jewelry displays, pottery, paintings, relief art, and pencil drawings.  Jim’s colored pencil drawings look like photographs.  Check them out and see if you agree.

Spring has Sprung – Can you smell it?

A whiff of spring

Can you smell spring in the air?

There was some heavy fog one morning so I decided to bring my camera, my assistant, and go for a walk.  We stopped at a pond where I had been before to capture some photos.  Cooper was content to just sniff around to check out some things.  As I noticed him doing that, I saw there were some wild flowers scattered about.  Stooping down allowed me to get in close for some photos with the morning dew on the flowers.  As I captured some images, Cooper happened to walk into the flowers I was photographing.  I captured some and I think this is the best of the bunch.  I think you’ll like as much as I.

Waterfire Providence

Waterfire Providence

After viewing the pumpkins at the zoo, we headed over the see the Waterfire.  The evening was about over as vendors were packing their wares, but the fires remained lit.  As is was October and breast cancer awareness month, the capitol had pink lights.  A gallery of my photos is here.

2013 Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Your eyes are like limpid pools …

A week ago on Saturday was spent visiting with cousins Chris and Joe and their families in Massachusetts.  Bridget was also there.  After dinner we went to Rhode Island to the “Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular 2013: Pumpkinville USA” at the Roger Williams Park Zoo.  There was a long line just to get tickets, but someone managed to find a shorter line so the wait was quite a bit less.  There was another wait, after we got tickets, to get in to view the pumpkins.  It was quite worth it, though.  I managed to capture some images and put them in a gallery.  Night photos are a challenge and I hope you enjoy mine.  View the gallery here.

There were pumpkins carved like jack-o-lanterns, but there were also works of art.  It was amazing to see pumpkins carved with spiders, Pee-wee Herman, a wolf, a minion, and a host of others.  I’m not sure how the artists were able to create them, but they were incredible to see.

Amelia Island Sunrise Memorial Day 2013

The sunrise greets and welcomes you to the day.

Getting up in time for sunrise is really worth the effort, usually.  In this case I think I manages to capture some excellent images.  Have a look and see for your self.

By now, my original post for NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) is at least a page or 2 away from the top.  I thought it was time to bring it back to the top.  Or at least it’ll be the first post until I post more of my photos!  😉

You should be able to click on the banner, it will take you to the NAPP site with a reference to me.  If you then sign up with NAPP, I get credit for it.  If clicking does not work, click here.

Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island Shrimp Festival – 2012

Fernandina Beach Shrimp Festival 2012

The first weekend of May is when the Shrimp Festival was held in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, FL.  Courtney and Josh flew to Atlanta Thursday night.  We drove down on Friday and came back on Monday.  They flew back from Jacksonville very early Monday morning.

The main street in historic downtown was closed to vehicles to allow vendors to set up their tents to display their wares.  Food and shopping were all around.  It was quite hot walking around on the asphalt street, which made us very thirsty.  Fortunately water holes were readily available.

With my camera and tripod I captured a few images.  The best I put into a gallery, which is here.

Hawaii 2011

Hawaii, Waikiki Beach, and Diamond Head

It’s been a few years since I’ve visited Hawaii.  We flew out on Saturday, stopping in San Francisco for a few hours.  The first day we drove to Waikiki and had lunch at Duke’s.  After strolling around for a while, we returned to the Hawaiian Princess in time to capture sunset photos.  To view the some of the photos from Day 1, click here.

The next day we went out around the mountain next to the resort where I knew there was a cache of coral.  After walking around and taking photos there we hung out on the lanai for a bit.  There was someone at the other end of the beach playing with a dog.  I looked out into the ocean and it looked like a dog was swimming, but since it was so far out I wasn’t sure it was.  It approached the beach near where the dog was.  As it started to come out of the water we could tell it wasn’t a dog, but a seal.  Perhaps it was a Hawaiian monk seal.  I captured a photo, but I’m not too sure you can see it very well.

We drove to the north shore and beside visiting stores there we also went on the beach.  While we were there, a few people started walking towards something.  One of them commented about a sea turtle being there.  We went there and did see the turtle.  Another photo shows the turtle’s head out of the water.

As we went on our trips, I noticed a bust or statue of someone in a park we passed.  Finally on the way back from the north shore, we stopped.  It looked like IZ, a Hawaiian singer, and after being able to view it and see a plaque, that confirmed it.

We made it back in time for more sunset photos.  You may view the photos from Day 2 here.

The first time I went to Hawaii in 1976 we went on a tour of Pearl Harbor.  Since it was not the Navy tour, we could only view everything from the boat.  This time we went to Pearl Harbor on the Navy boat.  There were very interesting things there including old photos, movies, and models.  The photos from Pearl Harbor are here.

Atlanta Botanic Gardens Annual Orchid Show – March, 2011

It took me a little while, but I finally put together a gallery of photos from the orchid show.  I believe there were a few different species this year.  I hope you enjoy the gallery.  Click here to view it.

Starr’s Mill – 11/2010

Starr's Mill - 2010

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, Starr’s Mill was revisited.  I went there about 2 years ago and decided it was time to get back there.  Knowing it was a little late to find trees with leaves in color, I could only hope for the best.

There were some decent photo opportunities.  The wind was still which allowed me to capture some reflections off of the water.  Click here to view the gallery page of photographs.  I hope you enjoy them.
